My name is Mrs. Yoder and I teach 5th grade math at Dalhart Intermediate School. I received my degree in Education from Texas Tech University and this will be my eighth year to teach. It will also be eighth consecutive year to teach 5th grade math, for which I feel blessed to assist students at such a pivotal time in their education. This is an important year in mathematics learning, as much of what students will learn will serve as their foundation for algebra, geometry, and more advanced math classes. It is also time for students to become fluent in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts (if they are not already). To help my students be successful this year we will be using technology, manipulatives, games, group and individual work settings to explore math concepts. The most important key to their success, however, will be the support and encouragement they receive from home.
My purpose for this blog is to help parents and guardians understand what is happening within the classroom so that they can better support their child at home. It will include some of our experiences from math class, information about assignments and projects, and important dates.
I hope that you will visit my blog often, comment, and let me know what else I can include to serve students better. I am looking forward to a wonderful year and am thankful to have your support!
Mrs. Yoder
